Four Wisconsin farms set for July 31 auction
FENNIMORE, Wisc. (June 23, 2010) -- When Merrill J. Oster offers four Wisconsin farms at auction on July 31, the bidders will likely include farmers who have relied for years on the farming newsletter he co-founded.
The farms -- totaling 771 acres (678 tillable) -- are located near Fennimore, Lancaster and Prairie du Chien in Grant County, Wisc., according to R.D. Schrader, president of Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company, which will market the property and conduct the auction. Oster, president of Oster Partners LP, was co-founder of Pro Farmer newsletter.
"These four farms include highly productive farmland along with some excellent hunting property. Mr. Oster's role as a longtime publisher of information on farm management and marketing will no doubt provide a measure of extra credibility and comfort, because bidders will know that the farms have been managed exceptionally well over the years," said Schrader.
The land will be sold in nine tracts ranging from 24 acres to 222 acres.
"This is the heart of Wisconsin's dairy land and the Mississippi River Basin. The soil is highly productive, including Tama and Judson soils, and road frontage is excellent. The land also includes tracts with excellent deer and turkey hunting," said Schrader.
"All of these tracts offer excellent potential for an outstanding return on investment," Schrader said.
The auction will take place on Saturday, July 31 at the Fennimore Memorial Building. Auction representatives will be available at the Lancaster Extension Building on June 29, July 15, and July 30 for tours and property information.
