Major Kansas cattle operation set for May auction
GARDEN CITY, Kansas -- The 9,480-acre west Kansas cattle operation known as TLW Land & Cattle will be offered at auction Tuesday, May 24, with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company conducting the event.
The ranch, located in Finney and Haskell counties just southwest of Garden City, has a 950-head yard and a carrying capacity of up to 20,000 head. It is being offered in five contiguous tracts ranging from 262 acres to 4,538 acres.
By any standard, this is a major offering that will be worthy of consideration by ranchers and farmland investors alike. Taken as a whole, it covers more than 14 square miles and includes 27 irrigation circles, excellent fencing and cross fencing, and facilities, said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company. The individual tracts are intriguing on their own right, and bidders will be able to bid on any combination of tracts or on the entire 9,480 acres, he said.
A single tract of 3,057 acres has 2,000 acres under pivot, a 950-head backgrounding lot, bunk space, pipe corrals, working chutes, a vet barn, a new office building, three houses, and storage for 40,000 bushels.
The largest tract 4,538 acres has pasture with cross fencing and excellent perimeter fencing. Other tracts include 262 acres (with 205 under pivot irrigation), 975 acres (with 768 acres under pivot), and 648 acres (with 500 under pivot). The land auction will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, at the Clarion Inn, 1911 East Kansas Avenue, Garden City. A related auction of equipment used in the operation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the ranch.
Schrader personnel will be available at the ranch to provide detailed information and accommodate inspections on April 27, May 10 and May 23. The land auction will begin at 10 a.m.
