Major auction of recreational land near Zanesville, Ohio, set for Oct. 11
Approximately 1,966 acres of Ohio recreational land - including more than 800 acres that have been managed for the past four years by the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation - will be offered at auction Saturday, Oct. 11. Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company, in cooperation with Murray Wise Associates, will manage the auction.
The land - located in Muskingum and Morgan counties near Zanesville - will be offered in 41 tracts. Much of the land is adjacent to The Wilds, a 10,000-acre wilderness where no hunting is allowed.
"This land produced a large number of high-scoring bucks during the 2012-2013 hunting season, and the seller has agreed to provide buyers with a hunting lease for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. So buyers will be able to hunt even before closing on the purchase," said Nick Cummings, auction manager for Schrader.
"Bidders will be able to make offers on any combination of tracts as well as the entirety, so we hope this will encourage participation of individuals, hunting clubs, investors and others, whether they're seeking just a few acres or the entirety. Our system of bidding puts all bidders on a level playing field," said Cummings.
The land, owned by AEP Generation Resources, includes areas with mixed hardwoods, pines, ponds and pasture. "This is truly scenic land, with a number of great building sites, and much of it is in the East Muskingum Local School District," said Cummings.
The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at John Glenn High School in New Concord. Online bidding is available by prior arrangement.
