Paris, Illinois Wednesday evening, November 7, 2007 An estimated 100 people attended the public land auction owned by the White Family and Phyllis Webster. The 459 acres was offered in 6 tracts. There were 27 registered bidders from Illinois, and Indiana participating in the auction that continued for one hour with the final sale at $5,718/acre. The farm sold to two buyers of Marty and Michael Rose of Rockville, Indiana purchasing 216 acres and Ellis Farm of Dana, Indiana purchasing 243 acres. The White family decided to sell the farm after the passing of both Max and Moscelyn White and the family members no longer live in the area.
The 459 acre contiguous farm is nearly all level Flanagan soils west of Chrisman at the Indiana state line. The White Family purchased the Edgar County land when their farm near Newport, Indiana was purchased by the government to expand the Wabash River Ordinance Works during World War II.
The auction was conducted by Schrader Companies, nationally recognized land sales firm, with headquarters in Columbia City, Indiana. According to auctioneer and Schrader President, Rex Schrader, this farm featured cropland of excellent soil types in an area that historically was closely held in the family for many generations. This area had an excellent yield in 2007 and crop prices are at historically high levels.
