SEPTEMBER 8, 2007: TERRE HAUTE, IN-2,080 acres of woodland, tillable land, grassland and stocked lakes and ponds were sold to the highest bidders on Saturday, September 8 at the Wabash Family Sports Center, making it one of the larger land auction opportunities in the Midwest. 41 buyers made successful bids on individual tracts or combinations of the 94 total tracts during the five-hour sale to gross over $5.5 million for the auction.
The property owned by RLF Chinook Properties, LLC contained tracts ranging from 4.5-acre lake/pond lots to 120-acre tillable land tracts. Abundant wildlife including deer, wild turkey, quail, geese, ducks, rabbits, and fish made this property attractive. The surface mining for coal that took place on a portion of the land years ago provided serene settings and beautiful vistas. Most of the 94 tracts of previously corporate owned land were sold individually to local residents. According to R.D. Schrader, Sale Manager for Schrader Auction Company, there continues to be a strong demand for both tillable land and recreational property. One local buyer was able to purchase a combination of seven tracts containing 989.7 acres for $2.3 million after giving up the pursuit of tracts 79, 80, 81, 82, 93 and 94 to the competing bidders. The 989.7 acres included grassland, tillable land and wooded land.

Brochures, newspaper ads, and a billboard on I-70 successfully promoted this property. Aerial photographs and detailed maps of the individual tracts with detailed descriptions and directions also clearly presented the land to the bidders.
In addition to this 2,080 acre sale in Indiana, the Schrader Company has sold other large land tracts in 2007 including: 5,600 acres in Dodge City, Kansas; 890 acres in DeKalb County, Illinois; 1,914 acres in Knox County, Indiana; 263 acres on Fox Island, New York; 1,800 acres in Tennessee; 2,300 acres in Washington; 1,066 acres in Kosciusko County, Indiana; and 700 acres in Noble County, Indiana.
